This intensive workshop provides a small group of writers the opportunity to explore and write poems and short prose in response to the rich cultural heritage of Barcelona.

Writing About Art in Barcelona is a 10-day creative writing workshop led by the award-winning poet Sharon Dolin. The 2019 theme is the Jewish Culture and Heritage of Catalonia, with tours of the Jewish quarter (call) in Barcelona and Girona, a specially prepared Sephardic meal, Friday evening Shabbat services, as well as visits to Barcelona's cultural highlights. Each day includes a morning intensive workshop and an afternoon visit to a museum or site of artistic or cultural interest. Writers will also have the opportunity to connect with a local guest writer. There is time to explore a very walkable city as well as free time to write. The goal is to write new poetry or creative nonfiction in dialogue with the Catalan culture participants will be encountering. This intimate workshop is limited to 10 people.

As one participant put it: “Barcelona, and the workshop, just has so much to offer to writers who want to transform themselves and their writing.”
