Founded in 1976 by Ellen Bryant Voigt as the nation’s first low-residency program, the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College has counted some of the country’s finest poets and fiction writers among its faculty and graduates. Continuing a tradition started by the program at Malaprop’s Bookstore in Asheville, NC—The Fastest Reading in the World—hour readers will be joined by other Warren Wilson MFA faculty and alumni in attendance to celebrate four decades of literary achievement.

Moderator:

Debra Allbery's most recent collection of poetry is Fimbul-Winter. Her work has appeared in the Kenyon Review, Yale Review, TriQuarterly, Poetry, Field, New England Review, and elsewhere. She directs the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College near Asheville, NC.

Pablo Medina is the author of many books of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and translation, among them the critically acclaimed novel Cubop City Blues, the poetry collection The Island Kingdom, and The Weight of the Island: Selected Poems of Virgilio Piñera.

Gabrielle Calvocoressi is the author of The Last Time I Saw Amelia Earhart and Apocalyptic Swing. Her third book of poems, Rocket Fantastic is forthcoming. Senior poetry editor at Los Angeles Review of Books, she teaches in the Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers and at UNC Chapel Hill.

Charles Baxter is the author of, most recently, There’s Something I Want You to Do: Stories. His third novel, The Feast of Love, was a finalist for the National Book Award in 2000. He has received the Award of Merit in the Short Story and the Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Rea Award in the Short Story in 2012. He is currently the Edelstein-Keller Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Minnesota.

A. Van Jordan is the Henry Rutgers Presidential Professor at Rutgers University-Newark.
