Publishers and editors at small presses will discuss the role of small presses in publishing translations. We will discuss practical considerations like finding translations and rights; editorial strategies; and the role of small presses in introducing important new works to an English readership.

Moderator:

Chad W. Post is the director of Open Letter Books at the University of Rochester--a publishing house dedicated to promoting international literature in translation. He is also the managing editor of Three Percent, a website on translation and home to the Best Translated Book Awards.

Matvei Yankelevich is a writer and translator living in Brooklyn, NY. He is a founding editor of Ugly Duckling Presse, where he curates the Eastern European Poets Series and co-edits 6x6. He is a member of the writing faculty of the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College.

Kendall Storey

David Shook's recent translations include work by Mario Bellatin, Víctor Terán, and Tedi López Mills. Shook serves as editorial director of Phoneme Media, which has recently published translations from the Russian, Portuguese, Serbian, Spanish, Uyghur, and five indigenous Mexican languages.
