Every writer has to start somewhere, but the world of literary journals and publishing houses can often seem opaque. This panel brings together a diverse group of editors and writers to discuss the publication process and the editor-author dynamic. Speakers include award-winning authors and their editors from Grove Atlantic and Graywolf Press.

Brigid Hughes is the founding editor of A Public Space and a contributing editor at Graywolf Press.

Elisabeth Schmitz is vice president and editorial director of Grove/Atlantic, Inc. where she has worked for eighteen years as an editor of both fiction and narrative nonfiction. 

Ethan Nosowsky is editorial director at Graywolf Press. He has edited books by Jeffery Renard Allen, Hilton Als, Deborah Baker, David Byrne, Geoff Dyer, Dave Eggers, Stephen Elliott, J. Robert Lennon, Sarah Manguso, and Maggie Nelson among many others.

Jeffery Renard Allen is the author of five books of fiction and poetry, most recently the novel Song the Shank. He teaches in the Writing Program at the New School and in the Low-Residency MFA program at Fairleigh Dickinson University. His many honors include the Whiting Writers' Award.
