A reading in honor of renowned poet, translator, editor, and activist, Sam Hamill who, for nearly half a century has been at the center of American poetry, as a student of Kenneth Rexroth, founder of Copper Canyon Press, founder of Poets Against the War, translator of classic Japanese poetry, and author of dozens of collections of poetry. Joining Hamill are four poets whose work and lives have been influenced by his dedication.

Stephen Kuusisto is the author of the memoirs Planet of the Blind, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, and Eavesdropping: A Memoir of Blindness and Listening, and of the poetry collections Only Bread, Only Light  and Letters to Borges. He teaches at Syracuse University.

Bruce Weigl is Distinguished Professor in Arts and Humanities at the Lorain County Community College. He is the author, editor, translator, and co-translator of over twenty-five books, including critical studies of Charles Simic and James Dickey. His most recent collection of poetry, The Abundance of Nothing, was a finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize.

Rebecca Seiferle was named Tucson Poet Laureate in 2012. Her most recent collection, Wild Tongue, won the 2008 Grub Street National Poetry Prize. In 2004 she was awarded a Lannan Foundation Fellowship. She is also a noted translator and the founding editor of the Drunken Boat.

Sam Hamill co-founded Copper Canyon Press and was editor for thirty-two years. He has published forty books of poetry, translations mostly from Chinese and Japanese, and essays. In 2003, he founded Poets Against the War. Habitation: Collected Poems was published in January 2014.

Cyrus Cassells's The Crossed-Out Swastika was a finalist for the Balcones Poetry Prize for Best Book of 2012. His sixth book, The Gospel according to Wild Indigo, and Still Life with Children: Selected Poems of Francesc Parcerisas are forthcoming. He teaches at Texas State University-San Marcos.
