AWP Chosen as Amazon Literary Partnership 2023 Grant Recipient

July 20, 2023

We are honored to announce that AWP has been awarded a $5,000 Amazon Literary Partnership Grant for the 2023 year. This grant will directly fund AWP's Writer to Writer Mentorship Program, which connects mentors and mentees together for a three-month session twice per year. Currently in Season 18, the Writer to Writer program creates community and skillsharing by pairing published authors with new and emerging writers.

The Amazon Literary Partnership supports writers to help tell their stories and find their readers, empowering writers to create, publish, learn, teach, experiment, and thrive. Since 2009, the Amazon Literary Partnership has been committed to uplifting and amplifying the voices of overlooked or marginalized writers by supporting the literary community through grants to writing programs and nonprofit literary organizations, including groups like AWP, whose mission is to “amplify the voices of writers and the academic programs and organizations that serve them while championing diversity and excellence in creative writing.”

“We are appreciative of the Amazon Literary Partners continued support of the Writer to Writer program and the recognition of this program’s importance to the writing community. The Writer to Writer mentorship program truly reflects AWP’s core values to nurture writers’ craft and professional success while striving to support the diversity and excellence of the field,” said Cynthia Sherman, AWP executive director.

“It’s an honor to fund these vital institutions that support writers in all aspects of their writing career,” said Al Woodworth, manager of the Amazon Literary Partnership. “At Amazon, we believe in the power of the written word to expand our thinking, advance our empathy, and change our world. We are grateful for the incredible work that these organizations do to champion writers and their stories, today and every day.”
