#AWP23 Masking Update

As the conference dates quickly approach, there have been questions about the masking policy. We want to reassure everyone attending the conference that AWP always has, and will continue, to strongly recommend mask-wearing on-site in Seattle. At this stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize many attendees require flexibility with health and safety practices and policies. There are many disabilities and conditions that make wearing a mask for long periods difficult. AWP supports providing everyone the ability to choose what is best for their individual needs while respecting the need for community care.

If any registered attendee tests positive for COVID-19 within 24 hours before attending #AWP23 in person, they will be provided a credit equal to the difference between the purchased in-person registration and the lower-cost virtual registration. Email registration@awpwriter.org between March 7–March 12, 2023, to redeem that option.

The mask policy may change if federal or local guidance shifts prior to the conference. AWP will continue to monitor and follow guidance from the CDC. AWP’s #AWP23 Health & Safety Policy is on our website and can be viewed here. For those who may be uncomfortable or unable to attend a large gathering in person, we also offer a lower-cost virtual option comprised of over twenty prerecorded panels, video bookfair spotlights, and livestreamed featured events.
