#AWP23 Masking Update

With holidays approaching and with the potential to see COVID-19 and other illnesses spread this winter season, attendees may be wondering about changing protocols for #AWP23 in March. From the beginning of this conference cycle, we have committed that the AWP Conference & Bookfair will follow all local, state, and CDC guidelines for masking while in public spaces. The current CDC guidance is to wear masks when there is high transmission in a certain community, or as you like.

We are monitoring the transmission rates in King County, Washington and will be following whatever protocols are recommended in this county in the lead-up to the conference. Currently, the transmission rate is categorized as low and King County, Washington has not required or recommended masking at this time.

At this time, AWP is not requiring masking at the conference, though it is certainly encouraged for anyone who would like to wear one. This policy may change as we approach the conference, as it is possible local or federal guidance may shift in the coming months in response to higher transmission rates. We will be revisiting this policy in January and again in February, and will post any updates on our website.

For those who may be uncomfortable or unable to attend a large gathering in-person, we also offer a lower cost virtual option, comprised of over twenty prerecorded panels and sixteen livestreamed featured events.

Thank you for your patience and your flexibility! We hope to see you virtually or in Seattle this March.
