WEB & IT MANAGER

 

Position

The Association of Writers & Writing Programs seeks a knowledgeable, goal-driven, and team-oriented, Web & IT Manager with a core understanding of web server administration and implementation, along with infrastructure management. This position is full-time (40 hours a week), remote position and reports to the Director of Communications & Technology. 

 

Location

Although this job is remote, the applicant must reside in Maryland, Washington D.C., or Virginia.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Website & Network

  • Maintaining networks and network file systems
  • Performing regular security tests and security monitoring
  • Serving as department liaison, communicating timeline and updates of larger projects.
  • Managing and maintaining cloud environments in line with security guidelines including but not limited to database, network, servers, and applications
  • Assisting in overseeing end-user support, including problem diagnoses, correction, and documentation
  • Evaluating, recommending, and implementing content management strategies, solutions, tools, and workflows
  • Experience in maintaining compliance with WCAG 2

Hardware

  • Proficient in Mac systems
  • Upgrading, installing, and configuring application software and computer hardware
  • Troubleshooting and providing remote technical support to employees

AWP Annual Conference & Bookfair

  • Update web functionality as needed by conference cycle deadlines
  • Ensure virtual components of the conference are functioning correctly
  • Set up and oversee AWP equipment onsite and test all equipment at onsite registration
  • Provide efficient, professional, and helpful service to all conference attendees
  • Work at the conference in whatever capacity is requested or assigned by the Director of Conferences

     

Skills and Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field preferred. College courses with relevant work experience required.
  • Experience with other MVC frameworks (Zend Framework, Cake, Symfony 2, CodeIgniter)
  • Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript libraries (like Bootstrap, jQuery, Backbone, Angular, React, Vue, etc.)
  • Minimum of 4 years of solid PHP and MySQL/PostgreSQL
  • 4 years’ experience working with Amazon AWS (EC2, S3, etc.)
  • Experience using source code control (e.g., Subversion and GIT)

Preferred

  • 3 years’ experience working with CI/CD pipelines for deploying website to EC2 instance
  • Experience with Linux server administration, e.g., Apache config files, MySQL configuration, and general system admin tasks for regular Linux servers and/or Amazon Web Services (EC2, RDS).
  • Experience in common third-party platforms and APIs
  • AWS administrator experience, familiarity with association management systems (Clear Vantage), and web development experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of SharePoint, Microsoft Suite, and Azure Application Services

 

Must be able to perform tasks that include extensive standing, sitting, driving, walking, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.) Must be able to pick up computer equipment and have means of transportation to ship equipment when necessary. Must be willing to wear personal protective equipment such as masks during the conference period, as well as lanyards, staff-supplied tees, etc. Must be able to bend and stoop to reach materials.

Compensation
