AWP's Executive Director Apologizes to Laura Mullen

September 2, 2015

I apologize to Laura Mullen for the letter I wrote to her and sent to her department chair and associate chair. I understand why Ms. Mullen and some of AWP’s members found this letter to be threatening. That was not my intention.

I wished only to request her program and department’s more direct participation in AWP’s governance, and I wrote to support the work of the many volunteers, organizations, committee members, staffers, and trustees who have worked so hard to make the conference a success. However, instead of opening a dialogue with a valued AWP member, namely, Ms. Mullen, my approach and tone of the letter shut down that important discussion. For that, I am most sorry.

Sincerely,

David Fenza
Executive Director
