Penguin Random House has launched a new social initiative to celebrate the literature of each of the fifty United States: the #UnitedStatesOfBooks.

#UnitedStatesOfBooks, which kicked off in January, will offer, in the form of Instagram posts, reading recommendations for each state, as well as an object that represents that state.

“We invite readers to join Penguin Random House on an armchair literary tour of the #UnitedStatesOfBooks to better understand the different voices, values, perspectives, and stories that make our country a unique place,” said Kristen O’Connell, Senior Director of Consumer Marketing and Social Media at Penguin Random House. “The #UnitedStatesOfBooks is one of the many ways we are helping readers discover their next great read and engage in discussion about the world in which we live, through books, and the sharing of them on social media.”
Penguin Random House’s list currently includes The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henríquez (Delaware); Miller’s Valley by Anna Quindlen (Pennsylvania); Drown by Junot Díaz (New Jersey); Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt (Georgia); Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates (Connecticut); Little Women by Luisa May Alcott (Massachusetts); and A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler (Maryland).
