No Lay-0ffs Here!

March 1, 2009

Tupelo Press has announced additions to its management and editorial staff. “At a time of many lay-offs, we’re moving forward,” writes new Managing Editor Jim Schley in an e-mail accompanying the press release. Schley comes to the job with extensive experience, having served as co-editor of the New England Review, production editor for University Press of New England, and Editor-in-Chief of the book publisher Chelsea Green. He received his BA from Dartmouth College and an MFA in Poetry from the Warren Wilson College Program for Writers. “This is a fabulous opportunity,” says Schley. “I’m ready to help create books that transport our readers, and eager to develop fresh, beguiling ways of reaching new enthusiasts for challenging literature at a time when the potential audience for poetry and adventurous prose has never been larger.” New Associate Editor for Poetry and Nonfiction, Cassandra Cleghorn, received her BA in Greek from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and her PhD in American Studies from Yale University. Her poems have appeared in journals including the Paris Review, Yale Review, and Southwest Review. Cleghorn has taught English and American Studies at Williams College since 1990. Grace Dane Mazur joins the press as Fiction Editor. Mazur received her BA and PhD in Biology from Harvard University, and her MFA in Fiction from the Warren Wilson Program for Writers. She was fiction editor at the Harvard Review from 1993–2004. Mazur is the author of SILK: Stories, a New York Times Notable Book, Trespass, a novel, and Hinges: Meditations on Writing and the Other World.
