AWP approves Hallmarks for Effective Low-Residency MFA Programs

This fall, the AWP Board of Directors approved Hallmarks of an Effective Low-Residency MFA Program in Creative Writing. The document was advanced by AWP’s Professional Standards committee, and it was created with the input of low-residency program directors from around the country. The document will be helpful for institutions looking to begin, maintain, or improve low-residency MFA programs.

“These hallmarks are the result of many conversations over several years, and they are intended to reflect common philosophies and practices among a wide range of low-residency programs, while at the same time celebrating the uniqueness and innovative spirit at the core of such programs,” said Richard Robbins, chair of AWP’s Professional Standards Committee.

The document is available for public download at: https://www.awpwriter.org/programs_conferences/directors_handbook_hallmarks_of_an_effective_low_residency_mfa_program_in_creative_writing
