May 1, 2011

According to the New York Times, since 2006, Ursinus College has been offering the Ursinus College Creative Writing Award to incoming freshmen. The award comes with $30,000 and the recipient also gets to take residence in 300 Curtis Hall, the very same dorm room that, in the fall of 1938, J.D. Salinger lived during his one and only semester at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. The 2007 winner, Anton Teubner said, “Late at night I’d be in bed and there’d be these drunk freshmen yelling the hallway: ‘It’s the room, it’s the room!’ (It) cut into my sleep.”
