Goodreads

As of mid-August, Goodreads, a fast-trending social networking site for book-lovers to discover, share, and expand their literary interests, now has over ten million members. Established at the start of 2007, the growth is astonishing—it took nearly five years to reach five million members, and just a year and a half later it reached ten million. Users of the site help classify and catalog books (which now includes over 360 million titles, growing at a rate of six per second), write reviews, mark preferences, and illustrate trends among readers and publishing in general.

Founded and based in San Francisco by Otis Chandler, Goodreads employs a team of thirty that works to sustain and improve the growth, strength, and purpose of the website.

On the Goodreads blog, Chandler wrote, “(We were) motivated by the belief that there was a better way to discover and discuss good books—and that we could build it.”

Published authors can start a profile on Goodreads using their Author Program, allowing them to maintain a blog and accrue followers, publicize events, share excerpts, post videos, advertise, and more.
