A New Study Finds Financial Aid Ineffective for Student Success

A study by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) found that financial aid given to community college students in the state of Louisiana had “no significant impact” on their academic success. The study addressed the affects of financial aid on whether or not a student stays in school and completes a degree. The findings showed that recipients of grants or other supplementary funding did not overcome differences in success rates across income levels among students with similar academic preparation. In its press release, AIR declared that academic preparation is a stronger predictor of success than financial aid.
