ROBIN DAVIDSON is a poet, translator, and professor of English at the University of Houston-Downtown. She holds a BA in French language and literature from the University of Texas at Austin, and MA and PhD degrees in Creative Writing and Literature from the University of Houston. In 2003-4 she served as Fulbright professor of American literature at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. Her poems and translations have appeared in such American literary journals as 91st Meridian, AGNI, Gulf Coast, Literary Imagination, the Paris Review, Poet Lore, Tampa Review, and Words Without Borders, as well as the Polish journal, Fraza. She is the recipient of two Houston Arts Alliance awards for her poetry and an NEA fellowship in translation, and is co-translator with Ewa Elżbieta Nowakowska of The New Century: Poems by Ewa Lipska (Northwestern UP). Her chapbook, Kneeling in the Dojo, involving poems related to the study of martial arts, received First Honorable Mention in the New Women’s Voices series competition sponsored by Finishing Line Press. A second chapbook, City that Ripens on the Tree of the World, is a poem cycle dedicated to Ewa Lipska and published by Calypso Editions, an artists’ collaborative press. Davidson’s full-length collection, Luminous Other, won the 2012 Richard Snyder Memorial Prize and appeared from The Ashland Poetry Press in 2013.
