Soma Mei Sheng Frazier’s work has been singled out by Robert Olen Butler, who read her short fiction chapbook; Nikki Giovanni, Jim Shepard, Frederick Barthelme and others. She has placed in literary competitions offered by established publications including Glimmer Train, Zoetrope and the Mississippi Review – where her first published story appeared, in the 2009 MR Prize issue. Her poetry has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, and one of her award-winning short fiction pieces was named a Notable Story of 2009 by the storySouth Million Writers Award authors. Soma’s work currently appears in the print issue of Southern Indiana Review, and is forthcoming in Glimmer Train (Issue 89). Soma holds the dual role of Chair, School of Literary Arts and Director of Institutional Advancement at Oakland School for the Arts, and teaches English and Creative Writing at Gavilan College. She has also taught at the Sarah Lawrence College Summer High School Writers Program, Holy Names University, and Valhalla Women’s Correctional Facility.
