Nancy Hightower has published short fiction and poetry in journals such as Word Riot, Sundog Lit, storySouth, Gargoyle, Prick of the Spindle and Literary Orphans. Her novel, Elementarí Rising, came out from Pink Narcissus Press in September 2013 and received a starred review in Library Journal. Her short story collection currently under submission, Kinds of Leaving, was shortlisted for the Flann O’Brien Award for Innovative Fiction in 2014. Two stories from that collection won first place and honorable mention in Prick of the Spindle’s Open Fiction Competition No. 3 in 2015. In 2016, Port Yonder Press published The Acolyte, her first collection of poetry that rediscovers a surreal, feminist interpretation of Biblical stories. It has been nominated for an Elgin Award by the Science Fiction Poetry Association.
Currently, she co-hosts the Liars’ League NYC Reading Series with Andrew Lloyd Jones, reviews science fiction and fantasy for The Washington Post, and teaches at Hunter college. She is also working with Paul Miller (aka DJ Spooky) on a collection of essays about digital storytelling.
