Dedicated to teaching the craft and business of writing to those at any stage in their career, the Atlanta Writers Club created the Atlanta Writers Conference to give individuals an opportunity to meet with acquisition editors and literary agents for manuscript critiques, query letter critiques, and pitches. In addition, participants will learn about writing craft and the publishing industry through editor and agent Q&A panels, a workshop, and talks by successful, experienced authors.

Highlights for May 3-4, 2024:

– 18 publishing acquisitions editors and literary agents, with coverage of every major genre–from historical, literary, mysteries, and women’s fiction to middle grade, young adult, fantasy, and science fiction–and nonfiction topics such as memoir, narrative nonfiction, food, pop culture, history, and science. They will critique your manuscript samples and respond to your pitches.

– Query letter critique by a pair of agents/editors to improve your work for the Saturday pitches.

– Q&A panel with all of the editors and a separate Q&A panel with all of the agents.

– Intensive workshop to show you how to build your author platform.

– Pre-conference edits by a freelance editing professional to help you get your work in shape before submitting it for a manuscript sample critique by agents and/or acquisitions editors.

– Friday-night mixer with live musical entertainment and a cash bar for networking with our guest agents, editors, and speakers and with your fellow writers (free for those who purchase two paid activities).

– Six mini-seminars on the craft and business of writing by successful local authors (free for those who purchase two paid activities).

– Award ceremony with certificates for best manuscript sample and best pitch given by each agent and editor and giveaway prizes, including critiques and pitches at the next Atlanta Writers Conference (free for those who purchase two paid activities).

– Conference all-activities discount, with two manuscript critiques and two pitches plus every other activity.

Past participants have earned major publishing deals and representation contracts. Past agents & editors consider it “the gold standard of writers conferences.”

Atlanta Writers Club

Founded in 1914, the Atlanta Writers Club (AWC) teaches the craft and business of writing, supports the local literary community, and encourages more reading by the public.

The AWC serves all who are interested in writing, from well-published authors to those aspiring to write for the first time. Our members include writers of fiction, non-fiction, memoir, essays, blogs, graphic novels, poetry, screenplays, teleplays, stage plays, journalism, and freelance work. We are pleased to promote our members’ publications on the Our Members’ Success page of our website, in our monthly newsletter, and through our online Bookshop.org-affiliated bookstore.

AWC hosts monthly educational meetings and periodic in-person and online workshops. If you are a first-time visitor, we invite you to come to a meeting for free to decide if we’ll be a good fit for you.

We also host the Atlanta Writers Conference twice each year, where our members can receive literary agent and publisher feedback about their work, take the next big step toward achieving agent representation and book deals, and learn even more about the writing craft and the publishing industry. In addition, we offer the Atlanta Self-Publishing Conference annually for authors who are interested in self-publishing or who have self-published and want to get the most out of their publishing business.
