The Porches Writing Retreat is an historic farmhouse built in 1854 overlooking the James River in the Blue Ridge foothills of Virginia.

Porches offers writers and artists uninterrupted time in a beautiful setting of spacious porches, comfortable high-ceilinged rooms, Wi-Fi, and well-equipped communal kitchen. Light-filled rooms with spectacular views of the surrounding farms, rivers, and mountains provide a quiet sanctuary in which writers can focus on their creative vision. The large kitchen is available for residents to prepare meals whenever they like. This flexibility and freedom allows the writer to work unhindered, to sleep, eat, and explore the landscape in sync with their own creative rhythms. We also offer one-on-one novel and manuscript consultation with Nancy Zafris, series editor of the Flannery O’Connor award for short fiction, Greg Michalson, co-publisher of Unbridled Books, faculty poet Mary Carroll-Hackett, and Man Martin, award winning novelist. These private and group workshops are described on Events/News page of our website. We are open year-round and holidays, available by week, partial week, or month(s). Three hours from Washington, D.C.

Featured Writers Include:

Mary Carroll-Hackett, Man Martin, Greg Michalson, and Nancy Zafris
