The Summer Seminar at Sarah Lawrence is a week-long intensive with workshops, craft talks, generative sessions, and nightly readings with some of America’s leading authors.

Creative writing workshops have been a part of the Sarah Lawrence College curriculum since its very first semester in the fall of 1928. Today, there are more than three dozen creative writing classes offered each semester to students in the MFA program and the undergraduate writing department. The Sarah Lawrence Summer Seminar for Writers emerges from this rich tradition.

The Summer Seminar is a chance for writers to experience the Sarah Lawrence pedagogy, to work with a faculty of acclaimed writers and passionate teachers, and to spend a week in a stimulating atmosphere, where writing—and thinking about writing—is at the core.

In daily workshops, one-on-one conferences, and multi-genre generative sessions, writers participating in the seminar will receive compassionate and constructive feedback on their writing and also have opportunities to create new work. To deepen our appreciation of a writer’s tools, like diction, structure, and the music of a sentence, there will be two craft talks each afternoon. Each evening there will be a featured reading with some of America’s most acclaimed authors, followed by a student reading or activity.
