A five-week online creative nonfiction workshop led by Donald Quist

How might design theory, including principles of form and function, help us become better creative writers? In this workshop, we will apply methods of design thinking to our personal essays, memoir and cross-genre projects. Discussions about the construction of works by Joan Didion, Akwaeke Emezi, Terrance Hayes, Brian Doyle, Diane Khoi Nguyen, Victoria Chang and others will help frame weekly generative writing prompts. This workshop welcomes beginning and more experienced writers, and can benefit those hoping to start a new project or those with a work in progress. By the end of this experience, participants will learn to craft their creative nonfiction with more style and intentionality.

Limited to 12 participants. Led by Donald Quist.

Featured Writers Include:

Donald Quist is author of two essay collections: Harbors, a Foreword INDIES Bronze Winner and International Book Awards Finalist and To Those Bounded. When writers immerse themselves in these challenging and supportive workshops and an encouraging community, they often make breakthroughs in their art. The Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway, founded in 1994, is the flagship program, attracting more than 200 poets and writers from across the country each year. In 2014, Murphy Writing became part of Stockton University.

Our Participants Say it Best

"The Getaway was exactly what I needed to recharge as a writer and start the year off on the right foot. From the supportive community to the hotel’s friendly atmosphere, I left feeling inspired. Now I can't wait to get back to work on the many projects I've lined up for myself. I only wish the Getaway could last all year!" ~ Cate, Pittsburgh, PA
