The Loghaven Artist Residency will host emerging and established artists working in the fields of visual art, music composition, choreography, writing, theater, and interdisciplinary arts for two to eight week residencies. Our goal is to provide artists with the highest level of support both during and after their time in residence. The Loghaven Artist Residency will launch in the Fall of 2019 with our first year of residents chosen by a national panel of artists and colleagues.

Loghaven’s historic cabins and ninety acres of surrounding woodlands have been thoughtfully preserved and renovated. The original log cabins on the property were built in the 1930s by Myssie Thompson. As a single mother, Myssie developed the cabins as a rental community to support her family during the depression. These historic cabins will be used as artists’ living spaces during their time in residence. Many of the cabins are ample in size, allowing for both live and work spaces and making them ideal for hosting collaborative artist groups. In addition to the cabins, three newly constructed buildings will be on the campus; two studio buildings and a central building for gathering, which includes an interdisciplinary studio space. For over seventy years, this cabin community has been home to creatives, intellectuals, and entrepreneurs seeking inspiration in a beautiful setting. The Loghaven Artist Residency will continue and expand upon the tradition of creativity on this wooded ridgetop just ten minutes from downtown Knoxville.
