Create Something Great! At Tinker Mountain Writers - workshops and retreats - Hollins University, Roanoke Virginia.
Fuel your passion and transform your writing during your one-week experience in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the beautiful campus of Hollins University. Join us this year in one of our intimate and inspiring workshops in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, romance, lyricism, or writing for the screen. Our workshops allow you to share work with colleagues and your faculty mentor in advance, and receive supportive and critical feedback.
If you don’t have a manuscript, or you’re looking to start new work, one of our multi-genre generative retreats is the perfect choice. Our retreats allow you to write each day and join fellow writers for both in-class writing exercises and sharing of work written right here at Tinker Mountain.
Whether taking part in a workshop or a retreat, you can participate in craft seminars, readings, meals, and social events. You’ll have plenty of interaction with faculty, including a one on one session with your faculty mentor, and have the opportunity to network with other writers for ideas and support.
Choose from nine workshops and three multi-genre retreats.

Tinker Mountain Writers
Since 2005, Tinker Mountain Writers has been nurturing and empowering a wide range of writers through workshops in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. We gather some of the best teachers of writing, who work alongside you to hone your craft and take your work to the next level. From novice to experienced, all levels are equally supported and challenged.
In 2018, we expanded our program to include multi-genre generative retreats. Spend the week with us and leave with a new manuscript or new ideas for your existing work.
Our writers return, year after year, to sharpen their writing tools and get their fix. Why don’t you join them and see how we can help you create something great.
