Join us for weeklong workshops in fiction, nonfiction, memoir, poetry, and special youth workshops. Plus panel discussions, craft talks, open mic readings, and much more, all in the beautiful setting of Wallowa Lake.

Summer Fishtrap is a week-long writer’s conference located in the heart of the Wallowa Mountains at the south end of Wallowa Lake – with workshops in fiction, non-fiction, poetry, memoir, and special workshops just for youth. Each year, we gather authors and instructors from around the country to provide intensive instruction to a small group of writers. Classes are limited to no more than 13 students which gives every writer the chance to share their work in an intimate and supportive environment.

What makes Summer Fishtrap unique among writing conferences is the emphasis on the creative process. The week is about generating new work, taking risks, and learning from the instructors and writers that surround you. The remote location and stunning scenery of Wallowa County provide inspiration which for so many, makes Summer Fishtrap a life-changing experience.

Fishtrap strives to cultivate exceptional writing, thoughtful readings, and provocative discussions through an array of programs including writing instruction, readings, lectures, and youth programs. Our flagship program, the annual Summer Fishtrap Gathering, brings writers of all ages and abilities together for a week of inspired writing workshops each July at Wallowa Lake in northeast Oregon.
