This conference provides lectures, workshops, seminars, readings, and social events in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and mixed genres, with nationally recognized writers, and we have open scholarships, veteran scholarships, scholarships for poets/writers of color, and a number of full fellowships!

ENROLL TODAY (early-bird prices are good until February 1st)!

2020 marks the Longleaf Writers’ Conference seventh year, and sixth with financial aid! The LWC still has the same wonderful relationship with the town of Seaside, FL, and will be working with the Cultural Arts Alliance, Sundog Books, and with the Seaside Institute to bring you the best conference workshop experience in the Southeast!

Join NBA finalist Rebecca Makkai along with Brian Turner, Seth Brady Tucker, Ann Fisher-Wirth, Diane Roberts, Matt Bondurant; fellows Kara van de Graaf, Barrett Warner, and more agents, editors, scholars for a full week (May 12-19) of writing workshops, seminars, consultations, school outreach programs, beach bonfires, social events. We encourage you to Engage. Write. Laugh. Beach! The LWC takes place on the panhandle of Florida in Seaside (where The Truman Show was filmed), and all events take place steps from the white sand and bright blue waters one would only find in the Caribbean. We have created a space of luxury and inspiration for all levels of writers and poets to join in a festival that celebrates writing, networking, and honing our craft in a beautiful setting among future friends. Forget all those negative things you have heard about other conferences: LWC is special. www.longleafwritersconference.com

Become a part of our legacy with author alumni such as Jill McCorkle, Andre Dubus III, Beth Ann Fennelly, Tom Franklin, Jennine Capo Crucet, Vandana Khanna, Chris Offutt, Antonya Nelson, Jen Percy, Rebecca Makkai, Anton DiSclafani, Elizabeth Stuckey-French, and many more.

We announce our fellows and scholars from December until late February.

We will continue to rotate new CNF, Poetry, and Fiction faculty into the conference, so feel free to contact us about these opportunities. Visiting faculty will be joining core faculty members, novelist Matt Bondurant (author of The Wettest County in the World, The Night Swimmer, and The Third Translation) and fiction writer and poet Seth Brady Tucker (author of Mormon Boy and We Deserve the Gods We Ask For). We will once again feature publishers, editors, and agents, as well as emerging writers through our scholarships and fellowships.

About Longleaf Writers’ Conference: the longleaf pine has a shallow root system, allowing it to grow tall; they are responsible for the unique environment of lake and dunes abundant in South Walton. We like the fact that without the wide and thirsty root system, there would be no gulf-side beaches or dunes. We feel that the wide roots of literature and creativity do the same for our humanity.

The Longleaf Writers’ Conference is an annual gathering of creative writers from all over the nation and features award-winning writers in poetry, CNF, and fiction who offer a full week of intensive writing workshops, one-day seminars in myriad genres, school outreach programs, readings, bonfires, and social events. This event occurs every year in the second week of May, and offers the opportunity for beginning, intermediate, and advanced writers to celebrate writing, to network with other writers, and to hone their craft. There will also be seminars hosted by professional editors and literary agents who will offer one-on-one consultations. All participants who pay the full conference tuition fee will be able to take part in all daily activities and workshops, while those paying a la carte pricing will have the pick of which classes and workshops they would like to attend.

Conference Dates and Events: This year, the cost to attend the full conference (includes workshops, seminars, sunset reception, but does not cover lodging) is $895.00 for early-birds (until Feb. 1), then $995.00, and we have a lodging option for $1895.00 ($1995.00 after Feb. 1). All levels of writers are welcome, and there are workshops scheduled specifically for poets, CNF, and fiction writers. There is a la carte pricing for all events and classes otherwise (see website for details).

The 2020 conference is being held from May 12th to May 19th, 2020, on the beautiful gulf-coast beach of Seaside (located between Panama City and Pensacola).

DEADLINE to enroll for the conference with workshops is April 28th,

DEADLINE for fellowships and scholarships is January 10th (PAST).

The conference has a number of financial aid opportunities; both fellowships and scholarships this year to offer writers and poets.

—Please note: Travel stipends are not included at this time. Fellowships are open to poets and fiction writers who are actively publishing in respectable journals and magazines, AND have at least one book in the last five years—please see application page on our website). Scholarships are open to actively publishing writers who do not have a book.
