Lighthouse Writers Workshop is an independent literary center in the heart of downtown Denver. Housed in a large, historic Denver square, we provide excuses for readers and writers to join in that great and fading tradition of togetherness.

Lighthouse Writers Workshop is an independent literary center in the heart of downtown Denver. Housed in a large historic Denver square, we believe that writers need other writers, and that while the art of creative writing may be solitary, community serves a necessary function. We run year-round workshops (from intro-level to master classes), a summer Lit Fest, an annual retreat in Grand Lake, and much more. Our students have published with HarperCollins, Random House, Little, Brown, and elsewhere, and have won Colorado Book Awards, Pushcarts, and have been finalists for such awards as the PEN/Hemingway. Our faculty have won NEA and Stegner Fellowships, Provincetown and MacDowell Fellowships, Colorado Book Awards, and lots of other great stuff. But mostly, we just hire awesome writers who love to teach. In addition, we've had the good fortune to bring in guest authors like Lorrie Moore, George Saunders, Jennifer Egan, Cheryl Strayed, Tobias Wolff, Junot Diaz, Robin Black, Mary Karr, Mark Strand, and Thomas Lux. We tend to attract terrific and diverse writers who love to be part of something. In the end, that's what makes it all work.

Lighthouse Writers Workshop

Lighthouse Writers Workshop is an independent literary center in the heart of downtown Denver. Housed in a historic Denver mansion, we provide excuses for readers and literary types to meet in that great, fading tradition of being in cahoots with one another. We believe that writers need other writers, and that while the art of creative writing may be solitary, a thriving community serves a necessary function. We run year-round workshops (from intro-level to master classes), a summer Lit Fest, an annual retreat in Grand Lake, and much more. Our students have published with HarperCollins, St. Martin's, Random House, Little, Brown, and elsewhere, and have won Stegner Fellowships, Colorado Book Awards, Pushcarts, and have been finalists for such awards as the PEN/Hemingway. Our faculty have also won NEA and Stegner Fellowships, Provincetown and MacDowell Fellowships, Colorado Book Awards, and oodles of other great stuff. But mostly, we just hire outstanding writers who love to teach. In addition, we've had the good fortune to bring in guest authors like Lorrie Moore, George Saunders, Jennifer Egan, Cheryl Strayed, Tobias Wolff, Junot Diaz, Robin Black, Colson Whitehead, Mary Karr, Mark Strand, and Thomas Lux. We tend to attract a diverse crew of terrific writers who love to be part of something. In the end, that's what makes it all work.
