Share Your AWP Photos & Memories for Giving Tuesday!

November 17, 2021

Four snapshots of previous conferences next to an old camera

On Giving Tuesday, November 30, 2021, join us on your favorite social media platform for a daylong celebration of the AWP Conference & Bookfair, featuring your throwback AWP photos and memories.

Share your favorite writer friends group shot, best panel ever, most memorable off-site experience—anything that stands out to you! We want to see and hear about the good, the wild, the educational, the unforgettable. All of this sharing will also be for a good cause: raising funds for the AWP Community Scholarship Program.

Each year, the AWP Conference & Bookfair provides a gathering space for the literary community with 500 readings and panels and a bookfair of 600-plus exhibitors. AWP is an opportunity space for writers at all stages of their careers; yet mounting a conference of this size requires major investments each year, from renting a convention center to providing robust accessibility services. Conference fees are operationally necessary but inaccessible for many in our community.

This is why we launched the AWP Community Scholarship Program in 2021. In our first year, we were able to provide 96 full scholarships to BIPOC writers, disabled writers, LGTBQIA+ writers, and writers in financial need. We hope to exceed this for #AWP22 with your help on Giving Tuesday.

We’ll be encouraging donations with hourly giveaways donated by friends and partners. We will also be offering special prizes for the best photos shared on November 30 via Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Be part of the throwback AWP fun and get ready to share your best photos and memories! Don’t forget to tag @awpwriter and use the hashtag #awpmemories.
