AWP Warns Members about Fraudulent Emails
December 23, 2020
It has come to our attention that an illegal vendor of B2B business leads is claiming to have AWP attendee information and is actively trying to sell it to people in the writing industry, including AWP members, past attendees, and exhibitors. These offers are illegitimate. AWP, or a third-party representative of AWP, will never contact you with offers to purchase attendee information. All emails from AWP will only come from @awpwriter.org email addresses.
Rest assured, there has been no data breach or hacking of the information in your AWP user account.
Do not open or respond to these emails. AWP is investigating this issue and will send a cease & desist letter to this fraudulent organization.
To avoid potential scam emails, ask yourself the following questions:
· Is the email from an email domain other than awpwriter.org?
· Does the email have any official logos or markers of AWP?
· Is the email out of the ordinary or unexpected?
Please find the below example of one of these emails:
