Rep. John Lewis’s Books Sales Jump Following Trump’s Censorious Tweet

US Representative John Lewis, who was a friend to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and fellow civil rights activist, drew the attention of President-elect Donald Trump on Friday when he said on “Meet the Press”: “I don’t see the president-elect as a legitimate president.... I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected.”

According to the Los Angeles Times, Trump responded by posting to his Twitter account: “Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about election results. All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!”

Trump’s tweet, Politifact reports, is “mostly false” with regard to its depiction of the district.

Fortunately for Rep. Lewis, four of his books landed on Amazon’s Top 20 bestsellers after Trump’s tweets, with his National Book Award–winning graphic memoir trilogy March at number one, and his autobiography Walking With the Wind second. Both books are now out of stock, as is Lewis’s Across the Bridge.

Trump had been expected to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but canceled his plans over the weekend due to a “scheduling conflict.”
