Poet Richard Siken Paints to Raise Funds for Copper Canyon Press

March 18, 2015

War of the FoxesThe upcoming release of Richard Siken’s second, long-awaited poetry collection, War of the Foxes, coincides with a fundraising campaign to raise $10,000 for the independent publisher Copper Canyon Press. Siken is painting and mailing vibrant, kaleidoscopic postcards to contributors as thanks for helping to cover Copper Canyon’s publishing expenses.

“The role of independent publishing is to be an open channel,” Siken said, according to the Indiegogo page. “There’s not a lot of money in it and there’s not a lot of money for it, and so the people who are dedicated to it are dedicated to the author, and the reader, and the work. That’s significant. Copper Canyon Press is an independent publisher, and independent publishing needs our help.”

In addition to postcards, some perks include a signed copy of War of the Foxes, a print of Siken’s artwork, and, the priciest perk at $1,000, a subscription to every book of poetry published by Copper Canyon Press in 2015-2016.

Siken’s first (and last) book, Crush (Yale University Press, 2005) was a 2004 Yale Series of Younger Poets winner.
