Donate to AWP’s Intro Journals Project!

December 2, 2014

IntroIt’s #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

Please consider making a donation to help support AWP’s Intro Journals Project, a literary competition for the discovery and publication of the best new works by students. Creative writing program directors nominate students’ works, which are selected for publication in participating literary journals, including Artful Dodge, Colorado Review, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Iron Horse Literary Review, Mid-American Review, Puerto del Sol, Quarterly West, and Tampa Review. All donations will be used to underwrite honoraria to emerging new talent.

Past Intro authors include noted writers and poets, such as Denis Johnson, Rita Dove, Lucie Brock-Broido, Yusef Komunyakaa, Bob Shacochis, Carolyn Forché, Laura Kasischke, Tony Hoagland, Barry Hannah, Dara Wier, Wong May, Norman Dubie, and Olga Broumas.

Here’s what two of this past year’s winners had to say:

“Writers face an isolating task. We may work for months on a piece before launching it into the abyss, unsure whether our words will resonate. Winning the AWP Intro Journals Project, which yielded my first publication, was like getting an answer from the abyss.” –Kendra Atleework, Creative Nonfiction

“Winning the AWP Intro Journals Project was pretty unreal…. It’s given me gratitude, as it’s a prestigious award and the first that carries that much weight that I’ve received; and it’s also given me confidence as I apply for fellowships and PhD programs. Entering the post-MFA world is intimidating with no full-length book publication yet, and having [this] on my resume gives me more hope about my immediate prospects.” –Ruth Baumann, Poetry

Note: before you donate, you will be prompted to log into your AWP account or create an account so that your purchase can be added to your shopping cart. Creating an account on our site is free.
