AWP’s Support for Adjunct Faculty

March 25, 2014

AWP welcomes proposals for events for the 2015 Minneapolis Conference and Bookfair. We welcome events on the unionization of adjunct faculty and other topics of interest of nontenure track faculty. Before you prepare your proposal, please read the event proposal handbook, open letter, and other resources on the Event Proposals & Acceptances page.

The 2015 AWP Minneapolis Conference Subcommittee looks forward to all our members’ proposals. The deadline for submitting a proposal is May 1, 2014.

AWP has reported regularly on the predicaments of adjunct faculty since 1988, when we published “The 37% Solution” in the AWP Newsletter. Since then, we have advocated for better working conditions and better compensation for adjuncts through many panel discussions at our annual conference, through many subsequent reports, and through policy statements. The most recent policy statement appears on our website, “AWP Recommendations Regarding Non-Tenure Track Faculty” as well as in The AWP Program Director’s Handbook. AWP has also provided candid assessments of the academic job market every year since 1995, and the most recent of these annual reports are always available on our website.

AWP is now developing new surveys of our field that will focus on all creative writing faculty, including adjunct faculty.
