Residential programThe Creative Writing track is one of four options within the undergraduate English major. Students in the other English tracks may also take creative writing courses. Any student may take one of several introductory courses.
The English Department sponsors several writing competitions each year. These include local contests offering cash prizes. Students also have opportunities to present their work in several forums, such as department-organized readings both on- and off-campus.
The department sponsors The Big Dog Reading Series, which hosts award-winning poets, and fiction and nonfiction writers. Visitors, in addition to giving readings from their work, often give talks on various writing-related topics and visit classes providing students with direct interaction with publishing authors.
Warren, Bloomsburg University's undergraduate literary journal, provides the opportunity for students to publish their work in its annual spring edition. It also provides staff members with hands-on training in editing and publishing skills.
