Residential program

The MFA program at Boise State University offers a diverse faculty who encourage writers to focus on their craft. For writers wanting to teach we offer course work in form and theory and the teaching of creative writing, as well as experience in teaching through assistantships.

Our program also offers a unique opportunity for students to gain experience in publishing. The Idaho Review is a national literary journal with opportunities for graduate assistantships as well as for graduate credit through course work or internships. In the journal's ten-year history, several stories have been selected for reprint in Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards and The Pushcart Prize, and contributors have included Ann Beattie, Richard Bausch, Stuart Dybek, Melanie Rae Thon, Rick Bass, Edith Pearlman, Madison Smartt Bell, and Joy Williams as well as poets John Kinsella, Larissa Szporluk, and James Harms. For poetry students there is an opportunity to work on a free poetry collective with Martin Corless-Smith directing.
