AWP celebrates the writers who teach in non-traditional settings and lift up the voices and stories of those in their communities. Writers are leading workshops—often volunteering their time—in prisons, elder care facilities, with veterans, in hospitals, and in many other settings. Many also take part in Writers in the Schools programs across the country each year.
We have gathered information and stories about these transformative programs should you wish to become involved. In this directory, you will find each program’s location and information on how you can contribute time, space, or other resources. If a group does not exist in your area, you will soon be able to see recommendations for starting a program on your own based on best practices compiled by those who are doing this important work today.
This guide is new, and we welcome any other programs that wish to be featured here. Simply complete this form [link] to submit a new program or contact Kenny Lakes for more information.
