Garry Craig Powell's linked story collection, Stoning the Devil, is set in the United Arab Emirates and was longlisted for the Frank O' Connor Award and the Edge Hill Prize. His novel The Martial Artist is about the Italian poet, playboy, war hero and proto-fascist statesman, Gabriele D'Annunzio.
