Lawrence Coates has published four novels, most recently The Goodbye House, along with a novella, Camp Olvido. His work has received such honors as the Western States Book Award in fiction, the Barthelme Prize for Short Prose, an Individual Excellence Award from the Ohio Arts Council, and an NEA Fellowship in Fiction. He teaches Creative Writing at Bowling Green State University.
