Charlotte Pence’s poetry merges the personal with the scientific.  Her poetry collection, Many Small Fires, received Foreword Review's IndieFab Book of the Year Award (silver medal) in 2015. The book explores her father’s chronic homelessness while simultaneously detailing the physiological changes that enabled humans to form cities, communities, and households. The director of the Stokes Center for Creative Writing, she is also the author of two award-winning poetry chapbooks, the editor of The Poetics of American Song Lyrics (University Press of Mississippi, 2012), and the new poetry collection on grief titled Code.  New poetry has recently been published in the Southern Review, Harvard Review, Epoch, Alaska Quarterly Review, Denver Quarterly, North American Review, Prairie Schooner, and The Southern Poetry Anthology
