TJ Beitelman directs the Creative Writing program at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, where he's taught since 2002. He holds a Master's degree in English from Virginia Tech, where he completed his Master's project in film criticism, and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama, where he taught literature and creative writing and served as editor-in-chief of Black Warrior Review. His novel, John the Revelator, and two poetry collections, Americana and In Order to Form a More Perfect Union, are available through Black Lawrence Press. He has also published a hybrid memoir, Self-Helpless: A Misfit's Guide to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, which is available through Outpost 19. His short stories and poems have appeared in Quarterly WestIndiana Review, Colorado Review, Bellevue Review, Third Coast, Copper Nickel,DIAGRAMVerse Daily, and New Orleans Review, among other publications, and he's received fellowships from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham.
