Ms. Rebecca Manery

Rebecca Manery is a doctoral candidate in the Joint Program in English and Education at the University of Michigan (PhD anticipated: April 2016). She holds an MFA in Creative Writing and Literature (Poetry) from Bennington College and an MA in Reading (Literacy Education) from Northeastern Illinois University. She is a peer reviewer for New Writing: The International Journal for the Practice and Theory of Creative Writing and a section editor for the forthcoming journal, Creative Writing Studies. An accomplished teacher, Rebecca has taught  graduate, undergraduate, and continuing education courses in creative writing, composition, play production, and the teaching of writing at the University of Michigan, The University of Chicago, Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and Steppenwolf Theatre. She has also conducted creative writing workshops for adults and youth in schools, libraries, and other community settings. A former dramaturg, arts in education director, freelance writer, and literacy specialist, she is co-author of Supporting Students in a Time of Core Standards: Grades 6-8 (NCTE, 2011). Her poems have appeared in Rhino, Inertia, The Body Politic, and Bennington Review. Her features have appeared in PerformInk and Stagebill . Her short plays have received readings in New York and Chicago; her ten-minute play, "Shadow Play," was a finalist in the Chicago Dramatists Workshop's Ten-Minute Play Contest. An article based on her dissertation research on creative writing pedagogy courses in graduate creative writing programs is forthcoming in New Writing. Her poetry chapbook, View from the Hotel de l'Etoile, is in search of a publisher.
