Wendy Barker’s sixth poetry collection, One Blackbird at a Time, received the John Ciardi Prize for Poetry and is published by BkMk Press (2015). Her fourth chapbook is From the Moon, Earth is Blue (Wings Press, 2015). Other books include Poems’ Progress (Absey & Co., 2002), a selection of poems accompanied by drafts and personal essays meditating on the process of writing. Her translations (with Saranindranath Tagore) from the Bengali of India’s Nobel Prize-winning poet, Rabindranath Tagore: Final Poems (George Braziller, 2001), received the Sourette Diehl Fraser Award for Translation from the Texas Institute of Letters. Barker’s poems have appeared widely, in anthologies, including The Best American Poetry 2013, and in journals such as Poetry, Southern Review, Georgia Review, Gettysburg Review, Mid-American Review, Boulevard, Southern Poetry Review, . Recipient of NEA and Rockefeller fellowships, she is Poet-in-Residence and the Pearl LeWinn Endowed Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is married to the critic and biographer Steven G. Kellman.
