AWP HBCU Fellowship Program
Meet Our Chosen Creative Advisor
In Kansas City, faculty and student fellows will have the opportunity to work and speak with special guest author Rion Amilcar Scott!
Scott completed his undergraduate degree at Howard University, and later earned an MFA at George Mason University. Before his current position teaching creative writing at the University of Maryland, Scott taught at Bowie State University. Scott is an author of the story collections The World Doesn’t Require You and Insurrections, which was awarded the 2017 PEN/Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction and the 2017 Hillsdale Award from the Fellowship of Southern Writers. Scott’s work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Kenyon Review, Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2020 and Crab Orchard Review, among other publications.
In addition to assisting with the selection of the two HBCU faculty fellows, he will also lead an event on supporting creative writing endeavors and paths to publishing at HBCUs.
