Beauty Clanging: A Tribute to Kamilah Aisha Moon

This poetry reading honors the life and work of poet Kamilah Aisha Moon (1973–2021), author of Starshine & Clay and She Has a Name, who touched the lives of countless people through her moving words and clear-eyed way of being in the world. A number of poets, including Remica Bingham-Risher, Ama Codjoe, and Evie Shockley, will share poems by Moon that have inspired them. The tribute remembers and celebrates the life of this remarkable poet.

Maya Pindyck's most recent poetry collection, Impossible Belonging, won the 2021 Philip Levine Prize for Poetry and will be published by Anhinga Press in 2023. She is the recipient of an NEA fellowship and coauthor of A Poetry Pedagogy for Teachers (Bloomsbury, 2022).

Ama Codjoe is the author of Bluest Nude and Blood of the Air, winner of the Drinking Gourd Chapbook Prize. Codjoe has received fellowships from the Rona Jaffe Foundation, the NEA, the Bronx Council of the Arts, the New York State Council / New York Foundation of the Arts, and the Jerome Foundation.

Remica Bingham-Risher is a Cave Canem fellow and Affrilachian Poet. Her most recent books are Starlight & Error and Soul Culture: Black Poets, Books and Questions that Grew Me Up. She is Director of Quality Enhancement Plan Initiatives at Old Dominion University.
