The Bilingual Creative Writing MFA Program at the University of Texas at El Paso offers students the cultural and linguistic resources to work and write in English, Spanish, or a mixture of the two. This reading showcases work, some of which is in translation, by a group of UTEP’s MFA students from North America, the Borderland, and Latin America.


Participants

Moderator:

Katherine Elizabeth Seltzer is an MFA candidate at the University of Texas at El Paso’s bilingual MFA program. She writes fiction and poetry, and teaches undergraduate courses in UTEP's Department of Creative Writing.

Andrea Lora Castillo is an MFA candidate at the University of Texas at El Paso where she also teaches undergraduate courses in rhetoric and writing studies. Presently, she is working toward the completion of her first novel—an experimental work of prose.

Fatima Sausan Masoud is a candidate in the University of Texas at El Paso’s creative writing MFA program. Her poetry explores the complexities of Palestinian diasporic identity, addressing the themes of memory, loss, exile, and an imagined homeland.

Aaron J. Romano-Meade is an MFA candidate at the bilingual MFA program in creative writing at the University of Texas at El Paso. He is a fiction writer and translator, and he teaches undergraduate courses for the creative writing department at UTEP.

Oscar Zapata is a Mexican writer, professor, and literary editor. He has a BA in philosophy from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He is a contributor to various print and web magazines in Mexico and abroad, and grantee of the Fulbright program since 2014. Currently he is a student at the bilingual MFA program in creative writing at UTEP.
