The only thing more awkward than adolescent sex is writing about it. These writers have published an extensive, wide-ranging variety of books for teenagers that touch on themes of early sexual experience and all its attendant issues. From the question of age-appropriate content to technical points of writing a thrilling kiss to the challenges of exploring the implications of a sexual awakening, the panel is sure to engender lively, candid conversation.


Participants

Moderator:

Sarah Mlynowski is the author of books for children, teens, and adults. Her titles include Don't Even Think About It, the writing guide See Jane Write and the Whatever After and Magic in Manhattan series. Her books have been translated into twenty-one languages and optioned to Hollywood.

Robin Wasserman is the author of the young adult novels The Waking Dark, the Cold Awakening trilogy, and The Book of Blood and Shadow, a Kirkus and ALA best book of the year. She teaches writing in the low-residency MFA program at Southern New Hampshire University.

Adele Griffin is the author of several novels for young adults, including Sons of Liberty and Where I Want to Be, both National Book Award Finalists. She has also written the Witch Twins and Vampire Island series books for younger readers.

E. Lockhart is the author of numerous young adult novels. Her book The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks won the ALA Printz honor and was a National Book Award Finalist. She writes for younger children as Emily Jenkins, publishing both picture books and middle grade fiction.
