West Coast publishers see the world differently. From Los Angeles to San Francisco to Portland to Alaska, we publish stories in a different light. Red Hen Press, McSweeney's, City Lights, Boreal Books, and Heyday Books present publishing West Coast style.

Moderator:

Kate Gale, managing editor of Red Hen Press, writes poetry, memoirs, creative nonfiction, and librettos.

Malcolm Margolin is founder/executive director of Heyday and the author of several books including The Ohlone Way. He has received awards from the San Francisco Bay Area Book Reviewers Association, the San Francisco Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, among other organizations.

Peggy Shumaker has published seven books of poetry and one lyrical memoir. She is the Rasmuson Foundation's Distinguished Artist for 2014. She served as Alaska state writer laureate. Professor emerita at University of Alaska-Fairbanks, she teaches in the mfa@plu. Shumaker edits Boreal Books and the Alaska Literary Series.

Dominic Luxford edited The McSweeney’s Book of Poets Picking Poets, and coedited Open the Door: How to Excite Young People about Poetry. He edits poetry for the Believer magazine and is a founding editor of the McSweeney’s Poetry Series.

Elaine Katzenberger is an editor with City Lights Books, Inc. of San Francisco, California. Her edited works include fiction, non-fiction and poetry, and have received numerous awards and prizes including the American Book Award and a PEN West Award for Excellence in Publishing.
