Since 1967, Minnesota’s Nodin Press has published more than two hundred books by established and emerging writers that deal with aspects of Minnesota and the surrounding region in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. The reading will showcase how its people and natural wonders make Minnesota unique, featuring a diverse range of local poetry, essays, biography, and nature writing. Panelists will ground you in the place AWP takes place. The reading will conclude with a drawing for a free volume from the press.

Moderator:

Margaret Hasse is author of four poetry collections, including In a Sheep's EyeDarling, winner of the national Milkweed Editions Lakes and Prairies competition and, most recently, Earth's Appetite. She has received poetry grants and fellowships from NEA, the McKnight Foundation, and others.

John Toren has edited scores of books and designed well over a hundred. He has written three books of essays and one popular travel book, The Seven States of Minnesota. He teaches a class on Minnesota geography, and speaks often on the subject of the state’s diverse regions and ethnic enclaves.

Lori Sturdevant is a Minnesota journalist who has covered state politics and government for more than thirty-five years for the state's largest newspaper, and has written or collaborated on eight books that have told the stories of Minnesota heroes and heroines.

Jim Gilbert is a consulting naturalist for WCCO (CBS) Radio, coauthor of the Minnesota Weatherguide Environment Calendars since 1977, and the author of four books on nature in Minnesota. He writes a nature column, which appears in the state's largest newspaper.

Michael Kiesow Moore is an award-winning writer of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction and author of What to Pray For. Founder of the Loft Peace and Social Justice Writers Group, his work has appeared in several books and journals, and his poetry was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
