There is an art to writing about the art of writing. Three highly esteemed writers and teachers will discuss the current state of critical writing about craft and how they approach writing about the art of fiction and the art of poetry through their contributions to "The Art of..." series, a line of books that examines singular issues facing the contemporary writer. Discussion among the panelists will extend to further conversation with the audience.


Participants

Moderator:

Charles Baxter is the author of five novels, five books of short stories, and two books of criticism. He teaches at the University of Minnesota.

Stacey D'Erasmo is the author of the novels Tea, A Seahorse Year, The Sky Below, and Wonderland. She is also the author of The Art of Intimacy: The Space Between. She is an associate professor of writing at Columbia University.

Carl Phillips is the author of thirteen books of poetry, most recently Reconnaissance, forthcoming in the fall of 2015. Graywolf published his book of essays, The Art of Daring: Risk, Restlessness, Imagination. Phillips is professor of English at Washington University in St. Louis.
